Best Lawyers has named individuals as Lawyers of the Year in Arizona, based on their particularly high level of peer recognition.

Since earning his JD from the University of Notre Dame in 1972, William J. Maledon has built a reputation as one of the leading commercial litigation and trial attorneys in Arizona and a go-to attorney for antitrust cases.
“Antitrust law is a type of complex commercial litigation that requires a lot of analysis of both legal and economic issues,” he says.
One memorable case involved the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tour. A professional golfer claimed that the PGA Tour’s eligibility criteria were a violation of the antitrust laws. Maledon defended the PGA Tour, and prevailed.
“That case was very interesting, stimulating and fun,” Maledon says.
Maeldon is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has repeatedly been selected for inclusion by The Best Lawyers in America® since 1995.
As a senior member of his firm, he has watched the law firm excel to where it is today. “I take a lot of pride in what we’ve been able to accomplish in terms of building a law firm and at the same time representing very significant clients in high-level cases,” he says.
A lawyer’s reputation is one of his or her greatest assets, Maledon says.
“It’s built from a combination of the quality of work that you do and also the professionalism you bring,” he says.
Maledon was appointed twice by the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court to serve on the Federal Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure.
