THE BROAD SMILES IN THE PHOTOS THAT decorate Savastano & Dunn Orthodontics speak for themselves. Taken in that special moment after the patient’s braces were removed, the photos capture sheer joy, gratitude, and even self-discovery and pride.

For almost 35 years, Savastano & Dunn Orthodontics have delivered the priceless gift of a beautiful smile, and all the improved health benefits and confidence that come with it, to thousands of patients in Central Florida.

Growing up in Casselberry, Dr. Rick M. Dunn became interested in orthodontics when he received braces in the eighth grade. About a week out of  orthodontic school, Dr. Dunn opened his practice in Seminole County. Today, the practice has offices in Longwood, Lake Mary, and Tavares. Long after the braces come off, Dr. Dunn and Dr. Nick Savastano keep in touch with their patients who include Miss America 1997 Tara Holland and professional golfer Matt Kuchar. At Savastano & Dunn Orthodontics, every patient is treated like a celebrity during treatment.

The Longwood office has a business center, and all the offices boast comfortable waiting rooms stocked with gourmet coffee, Wi-Fi capabilities, game rooms, and plush couches. Most patients are seen within five minutes of their appointment time.

“One of the biggest misconceptions patients have about braces is that they will somehow be viewed differently once they get them,” Dr. Dunn says. Yet more patients of all ages are choosing to benefit from braces. “Another misconception is that braces are painful,” he continues. “While patients may notice a bit of pressure from the braces, they don’t hurt.”

“Some patients don’t notice any pressure at al l, as it only takes a very light force to move teeth,” says Dr. Savastano, who joined the practice eight years ago. Most patients wear braces for six months to two-and-a-half years, depending on the severity of the problem. When teeth don’t fit together properly, there’s a higher propensity for tooth wear, gumrecession, jaw discomfort, and headaches. Adult patients are also trying lnvisalign®, a clear way to straighten teeth without braces.

“Braces can prevent patients from having future dental issues that usually occur when major bite problems go untreated,” Dr. Savastano says.

There’s no charge for the first consultation, which includes a digita l X-ray and photos of the jaw and teeth. Dr. Savastano and Dr. Dunn use these images to evaluate a patient’s situation and determine if treatment is needed. Then they will make a recommendation.

Savastano & Dunn Orthodontics accepts most insurance and offers pavment plans that can be extended over the course of treatment. The practice also offers third-party financing and pays the interest for the patients so that they benefit from zero percent interest. “We don’t “want finances to be an obstacle for patients who need treatment,” Dr. Savastano says.

In fact, Savastano & Dunn Orthodontics established its Smile for Life Foundation to help children receive braces” when they can’t afford them. The practice also participates in outreach efforts, including food drives, that benefit the community.
