SENIOR CITIZENS OFTEN FIND THEMSELVES AT A DIFFICULT crossroads. The direction they choose impacts their financial and personal assets, and their quality of well-being.

Often, seniors don’t know where to go or who to trust when it comes to making such integral life decisions about where they will live when they can no longer care for themselves. Many don’t realize why advanced directives are important.

Imagine a place where seniors can get the information they need all in one location. Imagine being able to meet with an actual person and get the answers to all of your questions. There’s no need to search aimlessly on the Internet. No need to call dozens of phone numbers only to be subjected to automated recordings or worse – be put on hold.

Thanks to One Senior Place, you don’t have to imagine. There, in one convenient, trustworthy setting, seniors and their families can get personalized information they need about any senior-related issue including insurance, legal, living options, and aging. Bridging the disconnection in the healthcare system, One Senior Place revolutionizes the way America shops for elder care and services.

Conveniently located on Douglas Avenue in Altamonte Springs, One Senior Place is a bright, cheerful, welcoming “hub” that houses offices or organizations and companies that provide products and services specifically to senior citizens. Essentially, it’s “square one” for unbiased information, advice, and referrals.

“We believe that seniors shouldn’t have to struggle to find the information and guidance they need,” says Karen Precord, center director. “Seniors can come here to gain a better understanding of all of their options, get expert advice, and meet with a wide range of quality senior care and service providers.”

Seniors also visit One Senior Place to just have fun. A jam-packed activity calendar features Zumba classes, Senior Club meetings, events. and other activities. In June, the center hosted a Women’s Day Extravaganza featuring mini-makeovers, massages, facial skin scans, a self-defense workshop, door prizes, and more. Featuring retro 1950s-inspired decor, the stainless steel and red vinyl cafe-bar is a popular in the center.

At One Senior Place, seniors can schedule a free, 30-minute consultation with an experienced elder care manager who will identify needs and provide options for the best solutions. Care Manager Brenda Lecco serves as a personal guide to help seniors navigate the elder care maze.

“One of the biggest reasons that seniors and their families come to us is to find out about living options,” says Brenda, who coordinated resources and manages services to give families and seniors peace of mind.

Going about this process alone can be stressful and overwhelming, but One Senior Place makes it easy and even fun with its bright and colorful Living Options showroom. Brenda can narrow down a long list of living home options to a few that best fit a senior’s lifestyle, finances, and health needs. This ultimately saves seniors time, energy, money, and the headache of going on dozens of tours or potentially choosing a home that does not meet their needs.

“Families are shocked to discover that we have so many different resources for planning every step of the way; they leave so relieved,” Brenda says.

One Senior Place hosts a wide variety of presentations and seminars. A popular seminar is led by expert attorneys who discuss new planning opportunities that are available under the revised Medicaid law. These seminars offer seniors information about legal and financial strategies that can help them preserve assets and save on nursing home costs even if they already live in a nursing home.

Independent insurance agent Teresa Risner says that she loves being able to meet with seniors and families at their office located within One Senior Place.

“The one-stop-shop concept here is amazing,” she says. “and the environment is really friendly and supporting. Seniors leave here telling me, ‘I feel so much better now – you helped put my mind at ease.”

Carmen Demos, Central Florida senior general manager of VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, says that working with One Senior Place has been a wonderful experience.

“One Senior Place and VITAS have had such an amazing relationship in Brevard County, we could not wait to continue the partnership here in Seminole,” she says. “Working with Don, Karen, Brenda, Michelle, and Kelli is such a positive experience. They provide a much needed service for seniors and their families. They truly are a one-stop shop for most, if not all, of seniors’ needs.”

Often seniors go into One Senior Place for one purpose and through a free consultation discover that they help with other services.

“Through talking to them, we find out that they don’t have advance directives, or their safety is compromised, or they are concerned about memory loss,” Karen says. “One Senior Place is focused on providing great customer service, staying abreast of the affecting seniors, and concentrating on addressing the needs and questions of both seniors and their family members.
