Dade County has done it again, with a little help from Chicano, Hailing from sunny Miami is the music industry’s next big star, sultry Latina singer and songwriter Liza. Write her name down in you Palm Pilot, because you will be hearing it again.

Born in Chicago and raised in Miami by Cuban parents, Liza began singing at 5 and recorded her first demo at 8. While you were playing with toys, she was already toying with her musical chops. At 18 she was writing with solo artist when The Godfather (Emilio Estefan) took an interest in her songwriting talent.

Her music is a smooth blend of Latino influence combined with the soul of R&B, she calls contemporary soulful pop. “My music crosses barriers because it had Latin influence paired with the soul of R&B, but it’s pop as well,” Liza explains.

Being raised in vibrant Miami has also flavored her music. “My influences range fromt he soulful, flowing Latin music that was always playing in my house to the hip hop artists listened to growing up,” Liza explains.

“Being raised in the states allows me to have different experiences that affect the way I approach melodies. It influences the stories I tell and twists the manner in which I tell them.”

Among Liza’s own personal favorites include Jay-Z and Sarah McLachlan. Currently you can find Musiq Soulchild in her Discam. “It is always cool when you hear one artist bumping another artist’s music in their car, even if they are in the same genre. That’s what music should be about, just enjoying what’s out there,” she says.

Through her songwriting experience, Liza has been able to meet many entertainers including the ones who record her songs. Perhaps her favorite experience was meeting Gloria Estefan. “Being able to grow up singing along to Gloria Estefan songs, and then actually getting to work with her was phenomenal,” Liza smiles.

Of all the songs in her arsenal, her favorites is “Lets Go Slow,” a ballad that in her eyes in not just some verses with a hook, but a intimate track that has been stripped down to just acoustic guitar.

It’s almost as if Liza prefers to have started out as a songwritter; she wants to connect with a audience with her lyrics first, image, videos, Munz specials coming later.

“I would like to reach as many people as possible with my music. I want people to enjoy it, not only Latinos and Americans, but Europeans…everywhere. I want to continue working to achieve this no matter  which form it may be,” Liza says. Her music has been recorded and performed by Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Mandy Moore, MSM, and Shalim. As a vocalist, she has sung live back-up vocals for Ziggy Marley, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Sanz, and Jon Secada. She also played Secada’s love interest in the music video for “Si No Fuera Por Ti” thanks to her extensive acting preparation at the New World School of the Arts, where she studied musical theater.
